Lot 1177
1847 Hawaiian Cent. Sharpness of AU-50. Cleaned long ago, now a nice looking reddish-brown. Kamehameha III commissioned one of the local merchants in Honolulu to place an order for 100,000 one-cent pieces. These circulated widely throughout the islands. Archival records show that by 1862, only 11,000 cents were still in circulation.
Estimated Value $450 - 500.

Lot 1178
1883 Hawaiian Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-65. A frosty mint gem with mottled shades of light violet toning. Flamboyant original Gem quality for the connoisseur who wishes a really attractive Hawaiian quarter dollar. These were struck to the identical standard as the U.S. quarters, and in fact were minted in San Francisco from dies made by Charles E. Barber (who had designed America's Barber coins). Pop 120; 66 in 66, 6 in 67 (PCGS # 10987) .
Estimated Value $600 - 700.

Lot 1179
1883 Hawaiian Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-65. Mostly untoned and well struck. The surfaces are bright silver in color, and quite lustrous on this beautiful Gem BU. Need we remind bidders that a weak impression was sometimes left by the rebound of the dies that struck Kalakaua quarter dollars of Hawaii. The beard was a high point on the coin and rarely finely detailed; however, in the present case, the opposite is true, the coin shows outstanding detail on Kalakaua's hair, his ear and mutton-chops, plus a clear, bold strike on the reverse. Outstanding! (PCGS # 10987) .
Estimated Value $500 - 550.
